Straight and Braided

IMG_6404It’s Wednesday again and that means it’s time to talk about WEDDINGS!!!

Today I have another very simple tutorial for a Flower Girl/Jr. Bridesmaid’s hairstyle. The model today is my friend’s daughter, Caylei. So thank you Caylei for being a great model! She loves to have her hair straightened, so that is where I started with this hairstyle.

This picture is the end result of the Straight and Braided! I know that it is a very simple (and maybe easy to some) hairstyle, however, I feel it’s very classic and can be worn at many different ages. Plus, it keeps the hair out of their face so they aren’t messing with it constantly.

What you will need:

Clips, Hair Oil, Thermal Spray, Hair brush, Straightener, Comb, clear rubber band, Hair Spray

Ok, here we go. IMG_6390This is what Caylei’s hair looked like after I brushed it out.

IMG_63921.) From here you are just going to part the hair in different sections and pin them up.

2.) Once you have all your hair sectioned off, now you can begin to straighten the hair. Before you use your straightener, spray each section of the hair with a Thermal Spray. I like to use Enjoy Thermal Spray. Hold about 8 inches away from the hair. Comb it though and then begin to straighten. You will continue this process with every section of the hair.

IMG_63943.) Once you have finished, spray a little bit of the Hair oil all over the hair. I like to use Alterna Bamboo Kendi Dry Oil. It’s light weight and helps tame the hair.

4.) Now you will begin your half french braid on both sides of the hair. I don’t have very good pictures of this, but I will be creating a tutorial for this. Once I do, I will place a link in this post!IMG_6403

5.) Once you have both your braids, you will braid them into a regular 3 strand braid down the center back. Tie it off with a clear rubber band, and you are all set. You can add your own hair accesory of your choice. For now, I just used s comb I had created awhile ago. Or you can leave it alone and keep it very simple. Either way, it’s simple and classy.

Simple & Cute Curls

It’s time for Wedding Wednesday…

Today I am showing you a simple and sweet hairstyle, modeled by my daughter, that you can have your flower girl or Jr. Bridesmaid wear. I will give you step-by-step instructions in case you aren’t sure what to do, however, It’s very simple. I will be doing more complicated hairstyles as the weeks go on.

Here we go. I will list the products that you will need to complete this hairstyle.

Things you will need:

Brush, Comb, Large clips, Thermal setting spray (I use the Enjoy Thermal Spray), hairspray (I use the Alterna Bamboo Ultra Hold), a finishing spray (I use the Alterna Bamboo Kendi Dry Oil), and a hair accessory.

Now that you have all your products, let’s get started!

Step 1: Brush out the hair so there is no tangles.

Step 2: You are going to start sectioning off the hair into smaller areas. This makes it easier to work with as well as making sure you are getting all the hair. I start off and make two sections in the front. Starting in the center on the top of the head, drag your comb with the skinny end all the way to the back of the ear. Grab that hair and twist it up and hold with a clip. Do the same with the other side.IMG_6413

Step 3: Now you will section off the rest of the hair. Depending on how much hair they have, you will need about 3-4 clips for the back. I always start with the top and work my way down. You can do whatever works best for you. I start near the top of the crown of the head and start at one side the head and drag my comb to the other side. I keep doing this until I have sectioned all my hair into workable areas.

Step 4: Now to start curling. I always start at the the undermost hair section. I unclip that section and I start off by spraying the hair will the thermal spray. This will protect the hair as well as define the curl. You don’t want to spray too close to the hair; stay at least 6-8 inches away. Continue this with all the sections.

Step 5: You should now be completely done curling all the sections. Make sure you spray one more time with the thermal spray, at least 8-10 inches away over the entire head.

Step 6: Now to style! You can do lots of styles once the hair has been curled, but today, we are going to keep it simple. Once the curls have cooled, I gently ran my fingers though the hair to break up the curls just a little after I sprayed with my dry oil. You don’t need a lot of this. Spray the entire head and then run your fingers through to create shine and tame any frizz that you may have.

Step 7: Add you hair accessory. This time I just added my Simple and Sparkle Headband. Check out my post from yesterday about how to make your own!

That’s it! Your simple look is complete. Perfect for any wedding or special occasion.

Hope you enjoyed! More hairstyles to come…

Simple Sparkle Headband

Welcome to the new Tuesdays…Tutorial Tuesdays! This is the day that I will have DIY projects for your wedding, home, etc. Coming soon will be YouTube Videos for some of the tutorials! I will keep you posted when that starts to happen.

Alright, let’s begin.

You get the call that your daughter has been asked to be a Jr. Bridesmaid or a Flower Girl! You are excited and then start thinking of all the expenses that may come with that; dress, hair, shoes. Well I have a very simple headband that will work for just this occasion! Plus, you are up cycling something that you, your mom, or even your grandmother has and turning it into something new.

This is my Simple Sparkle Headband!

Let me tell you what I did. It will take you less than 5 minutes to put together. First step is to look around for an old brooch or pin. I got this from my mother. Then you will take off the backing of the pin so it’s just the sparkle piece. I then went onto ribbon retreat’s website and purchased some metal headbands. Here is the link: I believe they only cost .50 cents each and the shipping is very reasonable!  IMG_6441You then take the flower, or whatever you have, and add some hot glue onto the back and then quickly place on the headband in the desired spot. I placed mine a little off center.IMG_6442

That is it! You are done and it is all ready to be worn!

It is simple, yet romantic as well. She will look beautiful and put together without looking older than she is! My daughter loves this headband and wears it all the time! Just the right amount of sparkle!

Tomorrow I will have my daughter, Clarisa, model a simple hairstyle to go along with this piece that can be used on your daughter during that special occasion.

Thank you and I hope you liked this fun and easy project that didn’t break the bank! Plus you helped out the environment by reusing something!
